I found this Pelican at Port San Luis near San Luis Obispo, California.
This was a first for me----a beautiful, dramatically colored breeding Brown Pelican, who knew?

First time poster but I've been lurking and learning!

A truly outstanding image, Katie. Certainly one to be very proud of.
Being new here myself, it is rather presumptuous of me to welcome you.
I'm certain that more established members will do that wholeheartedly.
    Love this image

Big Welcome Katie !!!!! Nice you have you with us and Posting !!!!

I like the bird's position in frame, crop and clean bg Sharpness is excellent plus having the correct head angle you have it sharp to the tip

For these pelicans we try to show the red pouch as much as we can It is their best and different feature from others Did a couple of adjustments to brighten the bird with levels and curves the sharpened just a tad One thing to note When I lighten the image is was more apparent the light was more from the left rendering the backside of the bird in shadows Excellent image Katie !!!

Wow, Katie, that's a great photo of a brown pelican. I live in San Diego and I've been too lazy to drive 15 miles to photograph pelicans but I'll have to get off my behind today after my morning class.

Hey Katie, welcome to BPN....very nice first post indeed! I am not sure of the correct colors but sounds like Al is on the track of that, especially since he did a workshop there recently.

Hope you keep posting and enjoy!

Very nice image to start with and the tweaks that Al did really brought out it's potential!
