The great whites are starting to nest and I was able to get there to see this bird attempting to attract a mate. I had a difficult time maintaining a vertical position with the camera in the canoe, but managed this one shot that came out nice and sharp. I was happy with the exposure as well.
    Taken on Everglades NP
    Sony a700, 70-400mm
    f8, 1/1000, ISO640, 360mm
Fill flash was used, but not sure how much it affected the photo at 1/1000 shutter speed. There was a bit of blue cast on the white feathers (which I decreased in PS) so I think it had some effect. Some cropping done as well.
    Thank you for looking!

    Connie:
Good shooting angle here. Often you see them at a much steeper angle.
Your exposure looks good, but I might try the image 1/3 stop brighter, to see what it does.

Nice to be able to see the eye.

The clouds in the background add some interest to the sky.

I like the comp Connie, with the feathers spread as a triangle over the foliage. The exposure looks good, and the clouds do add to the image.

I'm really liking this one Connie. Awesome pose, good exposure and very sharp as posted. Good choice of comp, with the leaves offering a nice base at bottom. The clouds add a very appealing dramatic effect combined with the sun shining on the egret. AT 360mm looks like you were close enough for flash having at least a bit of an effect...not familiar with Sony, but that is if your camera has "high speed sync" making it capable of flassh at those high SSs. Looks like it does or else your image would have been grossly overexposed :-)

Wonderful pose, which along with the light and clouds/sky make this a very dramatic image for me. I really like this alot, Connie.
