Since two years, more or less, I've adopted those that I think that are called "scene referred" settings in ACR.
Every slider set to 0, and curve to Linear,+ my own camera color profile. That way I know exactly what the camera captured. Less easy is how to set the in camera Picture Style so that both histograms match and I can ETTR without bad surprises. So far Sharpness 0, Contrast -4, Saturation -4, Color Tone -1 seems to work well in most situations with the Canon MKIV. Anybody using Scene referred ACR settings and experimented in camera different Picture style settings?
I take the contrast all the way down and saturation to -1. The other thing is to turn off 'auto lighting optimizer' since it changes the jpg histogram if you check it at the LCD screen of the camera.

Thanks Alex. aren't those settings going to match ACR default settings histogram? I too have the ALO turned off.
