Very nice pose with the foot up and nice reflection. the centered (vertically) compo is fine because of the reflection. I fin the bill shine a bit distracting but I'm willing to bet you would not touch it :) I may crop the right to remove the tall element.
Thanks for sharing, Daniel.
Fabs hit the high points. I would def. consider cropping in from the right. The raised area is very high contrast and pulls the eye off the subject and helps lead it out of the frame. If you like the long, pano look, you could still eliminate the raised area, and then add back in more canvas to taste.
If you want to leave the bill shine, your choice, but I would consider getting rid of the bright stripes on the bill in the reflection.
Thanks for your critique! I'm of a different opinion, without the seaweed sticking up on the right side, the frame would lose balance. And the shine on the bill, well, that's the way it was, so I'll keep it that way.
I appreciate your point about balance, and if the mass on the right was smooth, without the sharp edges and contrast, I would be all for leaving it. For my taste, the benefits of it as a balancing mass are outweighed by its negatives as a distracting element.
Ah, the joy of photography, many ways to see, lots of room for personal interpretation.
BTW, I've noticed that in general, the opinions from American bird photographers differs a little from the critique I get on our national forums in Sweden. It's definitely a nice contrast for me to post pictures here and I'm enjoying all your influences.
It goes both ways, and I am always interested in different ways of seeing. We are all products of the environment we grow and learn in. So, keep stimulating us!
I love to go the Swedish forums when I have the time, in fact I used to participate a lot in one before my life became more complicated.
Styles are totally opposed, plus you guys don't like to PS anything in or out, that's why I was betting on you not taking the bill shine out :)
