Dave covered some of the most important points. It is usually most engaging to have the birds head angled towards us a bit. The large out of focus branches in the foreground tend to distract us and stop the flow of our eyes into the image. If possible, a step or two to your left might have given you a better head angle and helped with the merge of the tail with the branch.
I would try to tone down the brightness of the background, as our eyes are drawn to areas of brightness and high contrast, and away from the subject in this case.
I do think the bird could stand a bit more sharpening, esp. on the head/ eye region.
It would be better to have the bird looking more to me, but this was the only "hole" through the tree branches I could find. I couldn't move anyway and it only stood still for a couple of seconds.
