    Default Wood Pigeon

    Hi

Thought i was about time to try the mkIV on some flight photos. I was trying to photograph some Jays, even though the light was not great, when this Wood Pigeon came in. A very common bird but I quite liked the pose as it came in to land. The good news is for the first time I actually managed to get a couple of keeper jay flight photos although not quite in the pose I am for but a promising start as the mk3 always failed on their erratic flight despite numerous attempts.

    Taken with 1DmkIV with 500mm lens at ISO 1000 F4 -0.7 EV 1/1250s

    Cheers

Great action shot, love the fully symmetrical pose, not easy to make an appealing image out of a pigeon, you did very well. I would sharpen a bit more , especially the head. TFS

Cool pose, I like the wing position and fanned tail. I might tone down the whites a tad and maybe a bit more sharpening.

Wow Rich, excellent shot. Excellent depth of field. The whites look OK.

Great flight shot. Wonderful wing pose. This is not an easy shot. I like the spread tail.

Echo the comment on how you managed to make a beautiful image of a pigeon. I think it's sometimes easier to make an agreeable photo of the more 'majestic' birds.
Like above, I like the wing/tail position and the detail in the feathers. The blush of color is really nice.

Thanks for the comments. I think it could have done with a bit more sharpening.
