This shot started out as an HDR shot that I liked quite a bit, but wanted to re-do it attempting a sketch or charcoal effect. I used Fractalious and began with the sketch #3 preset. I worked until I felt comfortable, but lost the boat name, so I used a layer mask to bring that name back a bit without losing the effect. Your thoughts and suggestions on where I might go from here are always appreciated.
Dave, Fantastic look here! I like the subtle use of the Fractalius filter. The comp. and B&w are great! I might clean up the very top edge. Very nice work:)
Dave , I like what you have done with this image. I was surprised to see that you used Fractalius, and I agree with Denise that the subtle effect really works here. Everyone's past posts using Fractalius have been interesting, but I have not thought about buying this program until now.
Thank you Denise, Mark, and Julie. Denise, it's strange that the top edge doesn't look like that on the original. The post here almost looks like a film scan that was not quite placed in the carriage correctly, but it's not. Julie, I really wanted to keep this effect minimal and was happy with the way it came out. I hope you give it a try. Mark, I'm glad that this may have brought back some memories.
I really like this image, Dave. The perspective of the pier on the left bringing you down to the boats is great. My only suggestion for this would be not to have cut the window in half on the left side of the frame. I'd either leave it in or take it out.
I agree about the window Jules. On the prints that I matted, I made sure to cover that window and it does look much better. I'll go back and crop it out.
