    Default screaming Hawk

I got this by accident when I was looking for Kestrels, light angle is not perfect and has created shadows but the first time I got a hawk screaming and with head turn in flight.

    7D 400 DO f/8 1/1000sec ISO 400. cropped and adjusted shadows a bit.

The pose is fantastic! :) I agree it's a shame about the shadows, but it is still an amazing shot. The brest colours are fantastic and the head turn is good as well.

Sometimes you have to get what you can. Great capture, on a shot like this I don't mind the shadows.
    Congrats

Where do you find these magnificent birds Arash? Sharp and great pose, don't mind the shadows either because you have nice underwing detail. Do you only use DPP for PP?

Great eye contact and nice screaming pose. The colors look a bit off to me and I think that a few tweaks would help this photo. What do you think of the changes? If you like them, I'll tell you what they are! ;):)

    Hey Doug,
Thanks for editing, will check back later on calibrated screen (laptop no good!). This guy was an adult so plumage a bit worn out compared to juvi.

Jackie I use DPP for RAW conversion and then PS for resizing and color balance etc.

Colors look nice Doug, did you use a warming filter or set neutral point?

Great pose, Arash. Love the scream and the head angle. Might only have wished to see the far wing in a slightly different position. Looks to me like Doug's repost de-sat's the blue bg and adds a slight touch of contrast to the bird. Whatever it is, it looks good to me.

Does anybody else find the missing primaries on the right wing troublesome. It took me a while to realize that they are just out of view because of the angle, but I really miss them.
For me this is one of those images that makes one pull one's hair out - so much potential, and lots of aspects of the image are soooo good.
And I await Doug's revealing his secrets.

    Cheers
    Gail

Nice HA and eye contact. Is the wing shape of these birds as blocky and square looking as in this image, or is that just caused by the angle that the photo was taken?

They do have wide and flat wings, slightly bent forward at full stretch position.

Thanks Arash, it's quite an impressive spread.
