Usually, only serious birders get enthusiastic over the white-winged far northern gulls that winter in the northeast. Here along the mid-Hudson River, we have a couple of Iceland Gulls (Kumlien's subspecies) hanging out with the hundreds of more common resident gulls. It's not as uncommon or pretty as an Ivory Gull but still a nice species. I like the underwing details that I captured on this gull, yesterday. Canon 500mm f4 x 1.4, F8, no flash, 31 degrees F
