Default Pied Kingfisher: Caught in the act

this is an image of a pied kingfisher, just coming out of the water after catching a fish (it can just be seen in the beak). This was a purely reflex shot so couldnt do any composition etc. I feel something is missing in this image but cant figure out what (maybe contrast??). Your comments are welcome.

    canon 7d, 500mm f4 + 1.4x TC, 1/1250s, ISO 320, f/7.1

    Girish,
I think a little extra sharpening would improve this, these are very difficult to capture, a faster shutter speed would have helped, I believe that the 7D will get a good image at a higher ISO.

Good timing, I like the splashes, eye contact and the fish adds to it. I would try to get more details in the blacks, tone down the whites and agree regarding raising the ISO for higher shutter speed. Keep them coming!

I fixed the link. Have a look at the posting instructions sticky at the top of each forum.

Great shot :) It is almost impossible to catch kingfishers leaving the water. Despite the shutter speed, the bird is still pin sharp and I think the wing blur gives a sense of movement. The blur in the splash I think gives a sense of speed as well. The green background emphasizes the head as well.
