I like the soft light and sharpness and wish the bird were angled toward you. I would give it more room at the top and especially at the bottom for the 'virtual feet'.

    Dear Axel....

    Thanks for the comments...

Unfortunately It's full frame pic...bird was too close to me for any compositional enhancements..... :(

On the upside, if birds in your area are so approachable, then you probably will have many opportunities to photograph them again soon and having a zoom lens should help, too.

Beautiful colors and definition and great curve in the neck. I like the gradual depth of field in the grass. Improvements already mentioned by Axel.

I love the greenery here, and the heron's colours look great against it. I do wish for a better HA and the image definitely needs more room at top - should be relatively easy to add canvas in PS with a bit of TLC. For me, I am OK with the framing at bottom as the legs are "virtually" cut at a good spot (rather than awkwardly clipped at the feet).

Agree with all on the colors of the background / bird / DOF, etc.

Also agree that more room is needed at the top.

As noted, a better HA would have added to this significantly.

Personally, I don't need more room at the bottom as the feet are hidden in the grass anyway.

Beautiful shot of this beautiful heron species. I like the colors of the grass and the bird. Great light and composition.

A very simple, but effective composition. The bird stands out really well from the green, OOF background. I think that if more space was put in at the top, then more space should be put in at the side to keep the composition so the picture does not become square. That's just my preference though.
