    Default Ready for Landing

It's fun to watch Long-tailed Ducks land if there is strong wind. They don't use their feet to brake but rather drop and bounce once or twice.

    Axel,
Your long-tail is great. How is the AF with the 1D4. Is it better than the MKIII?

Thanks, I find the AF performance of the 1D4 for birds in flight more consistent and it holds focus better with varying backgrounds.

I like this. I can just feel the wing buffeting him, as he tries to level out to land. The angle shows the outspread wings nicely, and love the splayed legs. Great capture Axel.

Great pose captured - I would like a little more separation from the background but probably not possible. I have never seen one of these guys.

Nice and sharp with great details. I like the incoming landing pose and the waves in the BG.

Great incoming landing pose and great DOF, Axel. Looks like the MIV works well.

Very nice detail. Love the head on view although the light might have been more favorable for a different angle. You take what you are offered though. Image nicely shows the alulas raised for landing.

Thanks, Doug! Yes, I made this after one of the big storms on February 7. There were not many people on the jetty that day.

They are not the most graceful when they land and your pose captures this. Love the stormy water behind him...you've gotten some fantastic images at the jetty this year, Axel.
