Default Love is in the Air: Elegant Terns

Elegant Tern courtship is an impressive sight to see. The male catches a nice fish and makes a bit of a commotion. An interested female approaches and then they fly in perfect formation like 2 fighter jets. Photographed in Southern California last July.

Perfect symmetry Doug, and interesting to see the different coloured bills. Well captured.

Lovely behaviour well captured, Doug. Perfect image for a reference work on bird behaviour. I might nudge the birds fractionally higher in the frame.

Great shot. Getting only one like this would already be great but two is amazing. The fish is an extra bonus.

Nicely timed to capture them in this position. I especially like the opposing head tilts.

Very nice duo and both sharp and one with a fish, a very rare case and great that you were ready to capture this! light was not from the best angle and shadows are a bit silent, but overall a great shot. TFS
