    Just went for a hike after days of crappy weather, and this guy landed at about minimum focus distance.
    Added some canvas because he looked too big in the frame for my taste.
    I wish the tail were completely out in the open, and that I had more DOF.

    Canon 50D + 300 f2.8 + 2x teleconverter
    Evaluative metering. 1/1250, f 6.3, ISO 400
    Color temperature 5300K

    Nice to see the raised crown!

    Nice look at a challenging little bird. Your self-critique is spot-on IMO. Not sure I like the bird place so low in the frame with all that empty space above it. Have you considered a horizontal crop?

    Thanks Doug. A horizontal crop did improve it quite a bit.
