This is my first image posted on BPN, so be "gentle" with me.

I had a wonderful trip to Tanzania last month. This image was captured in Tarangire National Park, at 6 PM on 1-16-10.
Nikon D300, 600 VR lens x1.4. f/5.6, 1/3200 sec, ISO 500, Exposure Compensation -1.3. Almost no cropping. From safari vehicle, with BLUBB as support.

What a beautiful image, your exposure looks good with nice details in the whites and the blacks, the bird is giving you great eye contact and the perch is nice too. You have alot of empty space on the right which to my eye is not adding much, so I personally would crop it some. There are some issues with the background as far as artifacts and noise go, but I'll leave it to someone with better photoshop skills than me to help you with that.

I hope that you share more images with us, welcome. Lots can be learned here.

Welcome to BPN Dan. This is a super image IMO. The perch is great (too bad it's not all in focus), and the BG is excellent. You have great, warm light and the pose, head-angle and exposure are spot on. The only things I would try are cropping a little from the left (and maybe a little less from the right) and running some noise reduction on the background.

    Hi Dan

This is a very well made shot. You have nailed the exposure here. The only thing is that there is a lot of dead space to the right of the bird, which makes the attention to divert from the main subject.

    Welcome to BPN.
Excellent exposure! Love the light, head angle, and the background.
    What a beautiful bird.
Another vote for cropping from the sides.

Welcome Dan, great looking bird and an excellent exposure. I agree with cropping a little from the left and running some nr on the bg.

Lovely bird, perch and light. I find the bird a bit too centered. I would crop some from the left to place him more in the left-side of the frame and having him face into the right side. Really like the graduated backgrounod but it needs a bit of NR. I would not run any noise reduction on the bird, only the BG. With a crop and some NR, you have a great capture here!
