This was pretty much mid-day light and I was standing at the shoreline not able to change my shooting angle so I'm wondering about the shadows? Another from my BIF practicing this week. C&C encourage and greatly appreciated.

Hi Katie - lots to like here - sharp as a tack, good eye contact (sharp and clear)
Done well considering the harsh light. The rear wing shadow could maybe be lightened a tad if you can do it without introducing to much noise. The head merge with the far wing is not optimal as you tend to loose the beak into the wing - a little more separation here would be good.
Still 98% of the way there.
    Well done!!

As far as catching a bird in flight goes, this's certainly a pass !

I really like the captured angle here, it showed how close the bird is to the water. If you can lighten the viewer right (bird left) under wing that would be nice, however I already like it as it is. I might back off sharpening on the eye and beak a bit.

Love the wings down position. Nice and sharp, also good eye contact.
Looks like you're mastering the BIF.
    Congrats
