Stopped by a local marina today with the idea of taking a Brown Pelican portrait or two and noticed this Little Blue Heron hanging out. I don't see these guys often so enjoyed the opportunity.

Handheld from inside my truck. Canon 40D, Bigma @500mm, f/8.0, 1/250, ev+1, ISO 500. Post included crop and RAW conversion in CS3 ACR, selective sharpening on the bird, despeckle and reduce noise on background in PS, noise reduction in Noiseware, reopen in PS and a slight boost to sat.

Hi Bob - looking quite soft and lacking fine feather detail on my screen. Shutter speed a little slow for that focal length - Handheld from inside your truck - did you have the engine turned off?? The vibrations from a running engine will find their way into you and the camera making it harder to hold still.
The white stripe on the back looks hot.
Did you apply noise reduction to the entire image or just the BG???

it does look a little soft. i might try to recover some whites in ACR. do like the composition. it almost looks a little over processed. too much noise reduction?

i lived in NC for almost 30 years and cannot remember ever seeing these guys!!

Noiseware does bad things sometimes. Does this repost, minus Noiseware look any better?

Hi Bob - think the slow shutter speed might be the culprit here - still quite soft but better than OP.
