This is a local spot called Grimes Canyon, just north of Moorpark, California. The little road drops down into the next valley at Santa Paula. Truckers drive big rigs over this pass. Captured just after a storm had passed through.

Nice shot Kerry. Beautiful vista.
Hi Kerry, do you know if they have run off areas for trucks? Would have to have on of them right behind me !!!
Al, this is just a tiny little road with nowhere to go but down the road! I think they are nuts!!

Beautiful valley. Polarizer made a good effect.
Nice shot Kerry. Looks like you are driving on the wrong side though( assuming you are in the passenger seat) :D Or its probably because of the way you cropped it.
forgot to mention. love California.
Kaustubh, I shot this standing on the side of the road to the left. The curve of the road makes it look like I am standing in the road, but I would not do that! I had to wait for a rare moment with no traffic. :)
I love California too!

Kerry, I meant to comment on this when you posted it, but I wanted to find out where it was.
I found it on a website (waymarking.com) that lists places of geologic significance. Have you been there and seen the burnt shale? btw, I teach earth science.

Julie, I have seen the shale there. The area is also known for decorative stone and aggregate. I have found plant fossils there as well.
If I can muster the nerve, I'm going to post a different shot from there in the landscape forum...
