I realize it's not the most exciting GBH image but I wanted to share my first outing with my new 600mm... I also thought it was appropriate to post my 500th. post here as my first in the Avian forum...Taken in Belmar NJ. Canon EOS 40D, 600mm f/4, 1/2000, ISO 400. Still working on getting BIF with the big glass and Wimberley head...going to take some practice...C and C welcomed.
Congratulations Nick on your 500th post !!!!! Also on your new equipment. I like the feeling this image presents with what looks like the wind blowing on a cold winter day. Good action with the lifted foot and nice detail. Looks like it could use a little CW rotation and the light appears to be a tad bit harsh, especially in the chest area and around the eye. All the best with your new lens and will look forward to your future posts. thanks for sharing.
Congrats on 500 posts...and welcome to the Avian forum! I've always wanted to photograph a GBH in the snow, but haven't stumbled upon the opportunity yet. Great walking pose, and I love the snow on the foot. The rocks in the FG add some nice interest IMO. I would tone down the blue shadows at top. I'm not sure what the full size is like but as posted the image could use some more sharpening for web presentation. Good luck with your new 600mm beast!
The snowy setting makes this one for me. Congrats on the 500th post! I agree regarding more sharpening of the bird and maybe reducing the blue saturation at the top.
