It's been quite a while since I'd gotten round to processing some avian shots that have been lying dormant in my archives since my December travels.

I know the nictating membrane is closed here - but I like the shot nonetheless.

Taken in the Kruger Park. Light was shoddy and I didn't really want to sacrifice more ISO. I concentrated on the perch and the bird returned to it after flying off in a direction I wasn't expecting.

    Techs:
    Nikon D300s with 200-400mm VR @ 330mm
    f4.5 @ 1/800 SS @ ISO-800

Interesting bird, I like the colors, composition, and well done considering the lack of good light.

Good BG and plane of focus looks good, Morkel. Motion blur and nictitating membrane are detracting. Reducing sharpening on the perch and darkening it a bit may be worth trying. Do you have some sharp, perched images too?

    thanks Christian & Tony.

Tony - I have tons of sharp perched images. Here is one I posted previously - http://www.birdphotographers.net/for...ad.php?t=52474

Like I said above, haven't really worked through the images and felt I was neglecting the BPN Avian forum ;)

I like the angle, pose and BG. It looks as if the critical focus is on the perch, which I would sharpen less.
