What did you do differently in C1Pro that you didn't do with LR and could you have done the same with LR?
See above
Was the final processing in CS4 any different for the two images?
Not much, except for the degree of output sharpening.
You seem to be suggesting that C1Pro gives more bounce for the buck without saying so! ;)
C1 algorithms have always done an exemplary job of extracting detail on par if not better than any other RAW conversion software I have used.
My memory of your images - I enjoy them over and over - is that this is perhaps the first time you have mentioned C1 and all of your stuff is generally processed with LR. Even though you are on the beta team, is this a new approach for you? I have been an advocate of C1 since I first used the program when going digital, to the point that C1 co-sponsored me in international adv and more for quite a few years. I have always remained on the beta team. C1 fell well behind with camera profiles, support, data basing, and had a very poor business model for quite a while. It was in my favor to learn, use, and teach what the majority of photographers were using, that being LR2 and LR3 beta. I still think Lightroom is a better all encompassing program for RAW conversion and data maintenance, however the images produced by C1 have always and continue to be among the highest quality available. Capture NX is also a killer RAW converter for Nikon users, but the interface still has much to be desired. C1 is expensive if you are only going to use it to develop your RAW images...but the quality is now even more astonishing.
You know I like to ask the fun questions!
BTW, I definitely like the C1Pro image better than the LR image - it seems more natural and the snow is snow white instead of snow blue-grey.
