I am testing my new 7D and here is an image I took yesterday of the Brown Pelican. Settings were -

    7D, Sigma 50-500mm @ 500mm, hand held
1/1600 sec, f/8 Mode: Av Metering: Evaluative Exp comp: -2/3 ISO: 400

Used ACR, adjusted levels, saturation. Applied Topaz denoise and usm. All C&C will be appreciated.

Hi - Congrats on the new camera!! Did you apply de-noise to the whole image???
Head area looks a little smooth and lacking in detail??

I like the pose, HA and the color of the sky. I agree with Lance about the head area.
That is a tough (heavy) lens to HH.

Thanks for the feedback, Lance. I agree, Denoise has smoothen some of the details. Let me rework this image. I am also trying to see how to avoid high noise that I am getting with 7D post processing.

Hi Peter, thanks. It has taken me a while to improve on the HH IQ with the lens. Most of the images I have posted here in BPN are with this lens.

Hi - IMHO always best to apply NR to the BG only - hard to apply it to your subject without loosing some detail
    :)

it does seem that the noise reduction has reduced some detail in the bird. will be nice to see what you do with the repost. might try to brighten the eye area a little also.

Lance, Harold, thanks for the feedback. Here is a repost after recovering the details on the bird...

Another repost... this time I processed the raw with DPP and it definitely seem the chrominance noise is much lower than that from ACR.

Thanks Arash. Here is the original 100% crop without NR. I used DPP 7.1.1 for conversion and then cs4. The focus was on the back of the bird.
