    Default GBH - The Catch

Here is what the Great Blue Heron caught in the creek at Andrew Haydon Park in Ottawa, Canada. I like the action in the photo I just wish I would have pulled back a bit to capture its whole body.

What about a crop of just the head? Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.

Hey Jeff, this is the first time I see any mention of goldfish in the ponds of Andrew Haydon Park! I'm used to seeing catfish and frogs being caught as prey there...

Nice water spraying action. The crop here is alright. Better than your previous image IMO. I'd consider cropping a tiny bit more at right...just enough to eliminate the small black triangle in LRC. Why not at bottom instead? Because you'd clip the lower neck feathers almost touching there...

The pale dried leaves near the head are somewhat distracting, and the white on the face is blown...hard to contain in such strong light;).

Thanks for the advice Daniel. I was also shocked to see it catch this Gold Fish. I did not think it was going to find anything but garbage in that creek and then wham it caught this. I will try the crop and do you think a slight blur to the BG would help?

I wouldn't crop just the head, it's too hot and not quite sharp enough IMO. I like what you have here composition wise and agree with Daniel's comments.

You're welcome Jeff. Check out this food item it caught at AHP this summer - more typical of what is in those ponds:)...this is likely the same individual bird!
