Default Great Blue Heron collecting twigs

I was out at Viera today before the rains came and boy was there lots of nest building going on. Great blues and anhingas had quite a few in the center part of the wetlands and several had very clear approaches. This male in his breeding colors was kept very busy bringing twigs back to the nest. Taken with the D300 and Nikon 70-300VR, f/7.1, 1/1250, iso 800, slight crop off the top only. C&C always welcomed:).

Beautiful wingspan with no shadows. Nesting material a plus. I may go back on the saturation in general.
It was a treat sharing with you over the weekend :)

Perhaps just toning down the yellow channel saturation would do the trick. Lovely pose, and I really dig the palm leaves...very cool. I also like the hint of cloud to the BG.

I agree with Dan on trying a version with the yellows back a little, the main issue for me is the foliage colour and the yellows would deal with this - love the sky with hints of cloud and soft light on the bird. Super pose, sharpness and nesting material. Since I let my daughter use my 70-300VR on the D300 I don't think I'm going to get it back:D

What a beautiful pose you captured. Is that his mate's head in the lower right corner?

Re post is great. I really like the way the details of the leading edge of the wings are shown. We usually don't get to see this part of the wing. Eye is super and nesting material sets the image off well.
