    Default Bufflehead Drake Takes Flight

From Southern California a couple of months ago. If I had it to do over, I'd have gone with -2/3 EC and a bit more shutter speed.

sweet shot Doug, these little rockets are tough to keep up with, and you did very well.

I'm always willing to sacrifice a bit of noise over more shutter speed if needed, especailly after I got Noiseware Pro.

    Nice capture, love the colors!

    Looks good to me!
Very sharp where it counts. Water color coordinates well with the bird.

I do see a bit of subject motion blur on the face, but these guys are veritable speeding bullets! Good pose and exposure, and I love the waterdroplets still clinging to the belly:).

Amazing hand-held shot, I am curious why did you not use a tripod and gimbal - were you in a boat?

nice wing position and panning BG Doug, good job hand-holding and panning the 600. A bit more SS and would be sharp!!!

Excellent exposure control pose and BG. Head looks a bit soft to me.

Stunning image Doug and I love that you were able to capture the color so well around the head area. Lovely flight pose, exposure, detail and eye contact.

Hi Jonathan. I do all of my flight photography hand held; the technique gives you freedom of movement that is not possible when working off of a tripod. I was not in a boat BTW.
