From a Nature's Photo Adventures workshop with Glenn Bartley last week.
It was cool to finally meet my "arch-nemesis" Glenn (i joke of course) as it was his shots on a local birding forum back in '06 that made me want to be a better bird photographer and re-evaluate what i personally thought made a good shot.
Anyways, Glenn was awesome and we got some of the target birds i had been after this year like this dipper.
Love the low angle, Paul. Also a very nice pose, good sharpness, and good comp. The water droplets on the wing are a plus. I wonder if the bird could be just a bit darker? Well done.
Funny how different people can be. I wouldn't do what Steve is suggesting at all, but in fact the exact opposite. I'd darken the BG to add more contrast and thus "brightening" the bird a bit.
I love the sharpness of the bird, and the water around it's legs. Great photo.
Beautiful, low angle on this juvenile American Dipper (notice the pale bill of the juvie). Young birds are lighter, but this does appear a bit too light for most of the dippers I've seen. You might like a slightly darker version with richer shadows. Nice work on this somewhat elusive species!
Lovely low angle, and overcast lighting. I might darken the pupil a tad, but other than that, it looks good. How was Glenn's workshop? I am curious about those. How was Tim Zurowski's yard?
Thanks everyone, i'll post a darkened version tomorrow for comparison, it might very well be too light as is.
The workshop was on Vancouver Island, concentrating on the Victoria area.
Glenn delivered on the birds he "promised" so all was good.
Didn't get out to Tim's yard, which was too bad as i wanted to check it out.
