Another rhino image made in the Khama Rhino Sanctuary. This one however was made after sunset. I used flash to get the rhino clear while maintaining the colours in the sky. Yes is does look a bit unnatural due to the flash, but what do you think?

RAW image double processed and blended (for sky and rhino/grass).

    Camera Model Canon EOS 40D
    Shooting Mode Aperture-Priority AE
    Tv( Shutter Speed ) 1/100
    Av( Aperture Value ) 5.6
    Metering Mode Evaluative Metering
    Exposure Compensation -2/3
    ISO Speed 640
    Lens EF100-400mm f/4.5-5.6L IS USM
    Focal Length 200.0 mm
Image Size 3888x2592, cropped from bottom to 4:3 ratio
    Image Quality RAW
    Flash On
    Flash Type External E-TTL
    Flash exposure compensation -2/3

Excellent flash technique.....if only you would have chosen a wider approach (like you did earlier with that steenbok) you would have yourself a winner! The colors of the sky and rhino match each other nicely and I really like that here.

Good job Vincent looks very good and well used fill flash. Good double process balance.

Sometimes you can make a selection on the subject and run a curves on that selection help eliminate the flat flash ligthing look by introducing some contrast.

    Hi Vincent,
This looks pretty good to me. I think a little touch up on the shadows of the grasses on his body (from leg to leg) would help reduce the flash look as it seems to create an imaginary line from those shadows through the grass.
