Um, just hanging around. Why do you ask? ;)

I love all creatures, great and small, but sometimes... This one and her mate have destroyed my feeder in the back yard and are now working on the front yard. They like to shred the finch feeders too! My next-door neighbor hand-feeds them peanuts, which end up in holes in our flower beds!

They are creative and persistent Kerry. I used to have a tube feeder that was suspended far enough height and width wise that they couldn't reach it. But they would try in vain to make it to the food. Quite comical, and if they actually made it to the perch it was weighted and too much weight closed the hopper.

Saw an interesting bird feeder at Wally World the other day. It had a bunch of little port windows for the birds to have access to the food. Those are surrounded by a clear plastic cylinder that is spring-loaded so that the weight of the squirrel makes it slide down and close the ports. Pretty clever. I have no problem sharing the food with them, but they will clean out a feeder in minutes then the birds don't get any! I have a family of sparrows and a family of goldfinches living here that need to be fed. I'll have a chat with the squirts and see if we can work something out! :)

Great shot. Squirrels are persistent I replaced a broken feeder with one that does the same as the one from Wally world and the squirrels get on the top and lift the cover which is tightly held down with a spring loaded lock and get inside the feeder top eat in comfort :D

At the bright side, you might be able to harvest peanuts soon. :)

I have absolutely NO idea what you're talking about, Kerry. Why, my squirrels are always well mannered, wait their turn and never eat more than their fair share.

    NOT!!!

I now buy them "critter" food and put that on a ledge that runs along my deck - keeps them on the ledge and the birds on the feeders and everyone is happy - except for me who has to spend money on critter chow!

Jules, I hear ya! I saw a squirrel feeder the other day and I was going to buy that, but where does it end? I swear, they are little extortionists! Based on what I've seen lately, there will be some smaller versions coming along soon...
