This regal rascal was just cruising around looking good. I cropped and applied NR and USM to the image. I'm concentrating on eliminating noise in my images. Does this one look OK in that regard? And how does it look otherwise?

wendell, I love the species, one of my favorite. I do not see any noise, good job. Notice the catch light, see how it appears larger than a single point of light and resembles a streak this can be an indication of motion blur and the feather detail can be lost - head look soft IMO.

Maybe try other methods to bump-up shutter or play with panning technique. Love the water and you framed it well might have included the entire water ripple - nice one - thanks for sharing.

Hi Wendell - Noise looks good - Head looks a little soft .
Was the focus point on the head??
Thinking maybe it wasn't then not quite enough DOF to have all in focus.
1/1000th should be plenty fast enough to handhold with sharp results with that combo. Could be losing a little bit of IQ with the 2X converter - do you have the 1.7??

good points above, wendell! i really like the composition. bird postitioned well in the frame. one other thing to consider might be to clone out the specular highlights on the face. nice job!!

Lance, I have only the 2X and have been considering replacing it with the 1.7 (or the 1.4). I might be better off . . . Which of the two would you recommend as a best "fit" for my lens?

Good point on the converter !!! I do make use of converters but as a last resort !! With converters would take multiple images since there will be a lower keeper rate, just from the extra magnification point will be harder !!! .. and you pay a big price is af performance !!!

wendell, I would use lowest TC possible - IMO. I use 1.4 more than 2.0 and practice panning techniques that could be the motion issue I mentioned above with or without the TC.
