From last year in SW Florida during Artie's IPT. These little guys are so cooperative and so much fun to observe:). Getting way down low provided a nice OOF distant BG.

Canon 40D + 500mm f/4 lens (borrowed from Artie), aperture priority, evaluative metering, 1/800s., f/4, ISO 250, +1.3 EC, natural light, handheld, full-frame.

    Daniel:

The fluffed up feathers below look like she has a skirt on!

Sharp, nice colors and exposure, shows off her long legs well.

Hope to catch a few more of them this year.

    Cheers

    Randy

Very nice capture. Love the "skirt" that Randy mentioned. Did you really sharpen the eye? There are some interesting details in the yellow part of the eye that is visible.

Hi Keith, this guys eyes weren't solid yellow like we usually see with this species. They were actually speckled/marbled...very cool patterns. Here's a close-up of the same individual:cool:

Dan I really like the first image. Lighting composition and BG and the bird posing on a slope (of the burrow?) all come together nicely. The eyes in the close-up are amaxing!

Both images are stunning but I will pick the second. Love those marvel eyes! and the serious look of this fellow like saying ''don't mess around with me'' Great light and killer BG. Congrats Daniel.

Hi Dan, coming in late, so everyone has already mentioned the "skirt" even before reading Randy's mention of it. Good perspective, with lovely detail and sharpness. I like the complimentary BG too. Interesting looking eyes in the other post.

Hey thanks guys. BTW, the second image is simply a huge crop to show the eyes...not a "finished" product.;)

Awesome pose and framing. Love that the bird is looking at a different direction.

Light, angle, BG, pose, comp, saturation, exposure and detail... all is A+ IMO. Big congratulations!
