Jim:Excellent wings up, gear down pose, with nice catchlights.

I might try to lower the luminosity of the trunk beneath the bird, and maybe some of the blue background highlights.

Very nice capture as is however.

    Cheers

Beautiful capture Jim! Excellent suggestions by Randy too. Looks great sized like this but the vertical limit is only 800 pixels. ;)

Oops! I thought the limit was 1024 on the longest side. I have been posting 1024 verticals for a while now and no-one has mentioned the 800 pixel limit. I guess I interpreted the guidelines to mean 1024 limit on long side and 800 limit on short side.

If the reason for limiting size is speed of download and amount of storage space, then it makes no sense to have a different limit for vertical vs horizontal presentations.

Gorgeous light which has really brought out the colors in his wings. I like the intense look and the catch lights which seem hard to get in these owls.

I wish he was angled a couple of degrees towards you but it's a pretty image none the less.

Did you attract him with audio ?

I saw you out on the lake this week but didn't want to bother you and your group.

I thought that was you, but I wasn't sure. I used a Barred Owl call to call this bird.

This is pretty spectacular. Ditto all of the above. I wonder if you could just mask the owl and put a mild Gaussian blur on the entire bg? Just a thought. Might help to isolate the owl from the bg a little better.

Lovely upstretched wing posture, and overall nice and sharp for the take off. Good eye contact too.

The bg was blurred using heavy NR in PS. I wanted to leave at least an idea of the Owl's habitat while making it pop from the BG.

Another excellent image Jim. The light on the oak below doesn't really bother me and I love the catchlight in the eyes.

I hadn't been out on the lake (why am I paying slip fees then ?) in a while until Wednesday. I got fed up with contending with the hydrilla. I was really excited to see it gone and the water levels up since it really has opened the lake up for use.

Going fishing tomorrow and some photography. Probably should have gone right before this front came in.

I wouldn't change a thing about this image....love the wing position, the light, and perhaps most of all the inclusion of habitat. Real nice, Jim.

The owl has nice separation from the background. I wouldn’t change it a bit. Excellent work.
