I took this image in the Sandia Mountains east of Albuquerque, NM in August. I'm not at all certain about the ID. Your input would be very much appreciated. Thx.
Keith- I think this is the very beautiful female Virginia's Warbler with the gray upper parts, splotch of yellow on the breast, prominent white eye-ring and yellow at base of tail. And you were in the right place for one.
I concur with John. Nashville's are overall yellow (below) and green (above) with a grey head. Virginia's is essentially grey with patches of yellow (tail coverts, chest). This a clearly the latter. You had a much better view of this species than I ever have.
