hi Joel - You have a good HA and eye contact, sharp details and a pretty good BG, the brighter spots in the bg do draw the eye a little but not too bad.
Like the pose - some of the whites look just a tad bright and a slight Halo under the beak.
Id lighten and sharpen the eye just a tad.
Looking forward to seeing more :)
Joel, this is very pleasing. I like the blue against the green BG. Good position for the bird. I agree with Lance that the eye could be lighter and sharper.

Hi Joel Good suggestions by Lance, might have used about 1/3 less comp !! Do like the pose and glad you were able to line up a good bg, great when setting up a blind !!
btw if able do try using a flash, even at a low level will produce a nice catchlight which brightens the eye !!!
On my monitor, the bird looks a bit bright. Otherwise, looks good to me !
A very nice subject to photograph. It has a beautiful assortment of blues through the plummage which your composition shows nicely. I like the composition and the contrasting colours of the bird and the bg.
Joel, if you want to even out the BG just a bit here's an easy trick:
Use the quick selection tool to select the bird and perch. Now go to select/inverse so it captures everything except the bird/perch. Take the eyedropper tool and click on the green near the back of the bird's head and grab a soft edged paintbrush at a 40-50% opacity and paint right over the lighter areas of the BG. This will blend the lighter colors and darker colors together. When I do this I usually paint over all the BG but see what you like.
Your whites are just a tad hot on the histogram and his tail is a bit OOF. Other than that, the bird is in a nice position and nicely saturated.
Thanks for all the helpful hints...I worked it over a little....
