This is an attempt to salvage the winter shooting of snowy owls. I chose this image because of the wing position as she was just pushing off.
Yes, bad perch. I also had to photoshop out the wire running along the bottom of the photo.
I am having problems catching the snowys as they push off the pole (I am at the base of the pole - so close). They either push off and up or off and down - I usually guess wrong. The times that I guess right I either have the body with clipped wings, or the owl has a wire running thru its body, or I manage to get the owl but it is looking away.
    Any suggestions are welcome.

    Taken with D700, 200-400+1/4TC, ISO 400, aperture 8, shutter 1/1250 at 440mm.
Later afternoon sun but still got shadows, which I tried to lighten a bit.

First of all, let me say that I would be esctatic just to see one of these gorgeous creatures. You did well exposing the whites, and I love your clean blue BG. The one thing I yearn for more than anything is more eye contact here.

Nice shape to the pose and the feather textures are great. Blue BG works well. Agree more eye contact would be nice.

Thanks everyone for taking time to comment. I also wish I had more eye contact. Posting has been helpful in learning what people want to see in an image.
I do realize that I have been lucky finding the snowys daily for the past month or so, just wish they would cooperate. I have them sitting and staring at me but not in-flight.

This must be one of my must-see owls from north America! Love the wing patterns and the feathered tarsi. I agree with your self critique about the perch, not much to do there.
