Default Lightroom noise reduction (plug ins?)

Any suggestions for noise reduction within Lightroom besides the built-in tools?

I don't use Photoshop very much and only have CS1 right now so plug-ins for PS are not an option. :o If there are no good options within LR is it time to bite the bullet and get the newest PS and NR plug-ins?

    Thanks for the help.

Not currently, I don't think there is architecture for it. However, beta 3 has better noise reduction. It doesn't have luminance yet, but it does pretty well. You can try it free at labs.adobe.com

you can buy plugins that work, Nik Dfine, & topaz denoise

like Alfred mentioned LR 3 is better than the older versions but still not as good as the 3rd parties, mind you LR 3 is still beta so the official release will likely improve

    Default Nik Define 2.0

I read a review of the Nik software for LR and Aperture. The author stated that although Dfine works well to reduce noise, it was at the expense of sharpness. Does anyone know about this?

    Thanks

from what I have seen they all change the sharpness

but it depends how you use it as well, with Dfine in photoshop you can choose what parts to do the NR on, or also by color

so there are ways around that, usually I will leave the subject alone and just do the NR on the backgrounds

I use the Nik define all the time, within CS3 with very good results, but as Jamie stated I use it selectively.
