    Default Incoming magpie

    Hi

I was inspired by Al Forns superb magpie image somewhere not far below this post, to post this flight photo from last year. I had been regularly feeding a tree stump in an open field with peanuts in an attempt to get some jay flight photos which I must confess I did not do too well with. However the magpies kept me busy while I was waiting as sometimes I would have up to 8 birds coming in. I intend to have another go for the jays this year. Magpies despite their poor reputation are beautiful birds.

    Taken with 1D mk3 with 500mm lens at ISO 400 F5.6 -0.3EV at 1/1000s.

    Cheers

    Rich:
The wing, tail and foot display is excellent here. I consider this a near perfect exposure, not easy on a black and white bird! The angle in the frame, slight incline of ground, all good.

I might consider cloning out the one leaf of grass sticking up by the tail.

Looks better than most jays I have seen.

    Cheers

An excellent action pose plus good sharpness and exposure, Rich. I'm not as fond of the mowed lawn background though. Other folks may have different opinions. :) You might consider blurring that portion of the grass under the bird that is currently sharp.

Great shot. I like the wing pose and the composition. Great exposure on such a difficult bird.

Not much wrong with that Rich! Nice shot, I was doing similar with jays too - got a shot with acorns - will post soon.

Many thanks for the comments and suggestions.

Randy, I still prefer Jays any day. Our eurasian jay is a large colourful bird and full of character.

    Cheers
