Thanks Akos- just got around to looking at the article.
Now unless we are talking immaculate conception in the albatross world, a male still had something to do with this of course! Female-female pairs and trios of two females and a male are quite common in the seabird world, particularly in gulls and terns, and is usually a reaction to a lack of males in the population for whatever reason.
