Never knew this species existed. TFS this beautiful image. Action you captured is outstanding. Light looks a bit harsh but handled well on your part. The wing position is outstanding.

A great pose and very sharp, with a nice background, Bob. I would only wish for a better light angle so that the bird's body wasn't in shadow. :)

Very nice. I like the action. Perhaps a tad of noise i the BG, but who cares. Those are the sacrifices you gotta make to get the shutter times needed for these pictures.

Thanks for the comments, Joe the reason you have not seen the bird before is that it is on the 2009 IUCN Red List Category as Endangered with only an estimated 1700 birds.

It is normally only seen between Korea and Hong Kong. The majority of birds are in Taiwan.

The last of the Hong Kong & Taiwan birds should be passing through the wetlands in Shanghai around then. The birds nest in the Korean DMZ and some remote islands of China.

Welcome Bob! Love this one: the wing position with the head in the clear and well lit, the outstretched feet, and the sharpness. I wish only for more room in front of the bird. What focusing pattern were you using? The light angle was not bad at all, coming just over your left shoulder and though there is a shadow the light is anything but harsh. I look forward to more good stuff.

Hi Bob - I was amazed when I saw this photo because this species has never popped up before. You really caught some nice action and the black feet are just perfect. Pretty exciting to get such an endangered critter. Well done and I'm looking forward to more of your images.

Love this one, Bob. Great pose and great expression from the bird. Only wish for a bit more room in front.
