    Default DPP question

I've been using DPP to process mk IV files.

Under the DPP Tools menu you can Transfer to Photoshop but the workflow problem is that DPP changes the file name to something incomprehensible and bearing no resemblance to the original. Here's an example:

    Original RAW file name: EB0C0200.CR2
Filename once it gets to Ps: DPP07DA02020D0942.TIF

    and another:

    Original RAW file name: EB0C0131.CR2
Filename once it gets to Ps: DPP07DA02020D0E04.TIF

This seems particularly mischievous on Canon's part. Anyone have a solution to this problem. All I want to do is have the file transfer to Ps with the same name.TIF

That's strange John, I wonder if it just happens with Mk IV files. I convert my 7D RAWS in DPP and send to CS4 as a TIF and it retains the same file name but with the .TIFF added.

No Roy, it has done it all along with 50D files too. Forgot to mention I have the Mac version. Maybe that's the issue.

Welcome to BPN BTW Roy. Where in sw England are you from? My mum was Cornish and I grew up in a little village in Somerset so I have a soft spot for the place!!

Looks like a Mac bug. I just tried it on a G5 10.5.8 and had the same problem. You could always convert and save, that is how I do it and it holds onto the original name.

That is correct John, this is a bad implementation in DPP (mac or PC), it creates a temporary read-only file with arbitrary name that is passed to photoshop. The workaround to keep the file name is to first convert and save the CR2 file as a TIFF (CTRL+D PC CMD+D mac) and then drag and drop the TIFF file icon to photoshop.

    John-
Guess we're both trying the same "tests" with new Mk4 files
I'm working on a PC and don't see the same naming issue

If i use Transfer to PS under Tools, the file name.tiff is preserved but it's in a temp folder with a bizarre name

My problem is that the last option under the Batch Process command is supposed to allow you to open a converted file from DPP in any other software (eg - PS). Although DPP transfers and opens PS, it won't automatically load the file i'd converted??? Just means i have to Open it manually in PS, unless i'm doing something wrong.
