    Default Trumpeter Swan

I realize the HA is a little away, and it's facing the other direction, but I liked the way it seemed to be pointing to the left. I have a few others on my flickr stream, but this is probably my favorite. It was very difficult to isolate just 1 bird given my distance to it and there were probably 500-1000 at any given time.

Shot at Riverlands Migratory Bird Sanctuary, West Alton Missouri

    Thanks for input and critiques

Love the sharpness, the detail in whites, and the pose with stretch wings. I don't mind about HA at all here, looks like it is giving a lecture to other bird not in the frame :D Might consider toning white on the neck a bit.

hI doug - like the pose, different but kinda cool.
The HAP will probably issue you a minor infraction notice ;)
Dont know if it is/was possible best to line the sun up at your back so to get even illumination on your subject, prevents the shadows on some area's of the bird.
Some of the whites on the neck look a little hot.
Toough assignment with so many birds - looking forward to seeing more :)

Hi Dug Earlier and sun at your back is the ticket for making this bird look good, might try a overcast day !!

With that much white of a bird the shadows detract from the image and is tough to deal with them in PS !! I"m sure they will give you another chance !!

Thanks for the comments, this bird was just to my left, the sun was at my back, but I couldn't get between the sun and this bird(the water area is off limits during the winter). Several other shots were with me directly between the sun and bird, however, the poses and backgrounds weren't quite as good.

I will probably head back this weekend and try to get good poses and backgrounds with the sun directly to my back.

This bird was just to my right

If it's uncool to put these pics in this thread, I'll remove them.

thanks for the critiques. I will work on all suggestions(hopefully this weekend)
    Thanks again

I love this pose, Dug...so for me, I'll ignore the shadows:D and why is it that so often it's just not an option to move to the perfect spot sunwise?
