Default A Day Late and A Dollar Short

I guess it should be clear by now that I don't shoot with the idea of weekly themes and contests in the back of my mind. I shoot what moves me and then move on. So often I come to realize, after the fact, that I make post the day before of two days after a theme or miss a theme entirely, like in-camera effects or blurs, just because I tend to be a day late and a dollar short! No big deal just an observation in line with the philosophizing that I've been doing of late.

With that in mind, I lay myself open to the same kind of questions I've been dishing out of late. Here is another Gerbera image from the weekend. In this case, it is a 10-image zoom multiple exposure made with my Canon 50D and 70-200 2.8L IS w/ 500D close-up filter/lens mounted on a tripod. I started at 70mm and in 10 increments, I worked my way to 200mm. The images were combined in Photoshop using the Steinmueller/Sweet script and processing was done using Nik.

    Shutter speed varied from 3.6 sec @ 70mm to 1.8 sec @ 200mm. Aperture was a constant f/20. ISO was 100. EV was -1.

Absolutely fabulous. This is probably one of my all time favorite images of yours, Ed, and I think I'm going to have to try one! The colors and transparency of the image is outstanding and very 3D. I would have loved to have seen this presented in a square crop where the top and bottom had as much room as the sides to blow my mind out to all four corners. Lovely!

Hi Ed, I felt compelled to comment on this due to the fact I like it so much. Your hard work and technical skill paid off and you came up with a striking image. I like the way the petals fade into the darkness forcing your eye to move around the image examining the layers. Well done!!

Ed, I'm loving this too. The center just pulls you in. I love the colors and the composition. What I like most about it are the repeated petals. They seem to be endless the way the go off the page. NICE!:)

This is very nice with the repeating patterns and the way it falls to dark around the corners. Also love the reddy-orange colour.

Super job Ed! Timing isn't always everything, and the themes don't really ever expire. I see them as new challenges and opportunities to add to my learning experience. Very nice work and execution!! Appreciate your sharing of the techniques involved.

Thanks all. Glad you enjoyed the image. It was a fun one to make. Sometimes things don't turn out quite the way you visualize it. This is a case where it did! :)
