    GBH from the everglades.
    500mm

    ETTL -1 /HSS

Added more black and enhanced the sky with NIK bi-colour filter.
High Speed sync was on, but I don't think it does much after 1/1000s.
    Comments/ Suggestions Appreciated.

    Hi Jackie

The flash did not have any effect on this one, distance to bird coupled with shutter speed and the minus one setting !! Love the pose and how you framed the sun, bird could be looking slightly away, they never cooperate on that perch !! Could darken the bird some.

My rule of thumb for these into the sun is this ... if the sun is so strong I have to look away and place a hand in front of my eyes is -3 and don't forget to use the dof preview button so you won't cook your eye !!! ... if its just strong enough you have to squint then -2 ..... anything less than that go for -1 . With a little practice you can anticipate accurately. For this one I wold have gone one less !!!

Fine looking image, wouldn't mind having it in my files !!!!

Hi Jackie - Lovely like it a lot - great advice from AL - those tips are gems -- especially about using the DOF preview button, thinking live view might be another option.
I might consider darkening the blacks a little.

    Big Congrats - Fine image!!!

Hi Jackie, very technical shot there and you did well. I do think I would have given up the flash, as it can't keep up with the sun very well so best to make this one a full silhouette. I do love the bi-color filters! Really makes the image look nice. Like it a lot!!

Thanks for all the technical advice everyone. Probably could have gone at least -2 or -3. Good tip about the DOF so you don't cook your eyeball:D. Flash was a bust, don't know even why I used it. DUH!
Did a rework and added more black through selective colour.

Love the mood of this one and the toning in the background sky. I like the rim light around the bird too. Wish the sun is a little higher up in the frame. Great advice about DOF preview and live view.

    Jackie.

Creative image, agree with you and Kerry, flash was not much help. Cool composition and these image types have tons of potential.
