This Trumpeter Swan was photographed at a wintering area in Minnesota. Note how the feet are spread out to act as water skis once they touch the water. 40D, 300 f/4 + 1.4X, 1/1600, f/7.1, ISO 400, hand-held using a BushHawk. I removed a couple of ice chunks from the water using APATS 2 methods. Comments are welcome.

    Steve:

Very nicely captured with great wing display, feet, head shadow on wing. Nice exposure too.

Love the motion you have created with this capture. The whites look great. The pose really works, and I second Randy on the shadow of the head on the underwings.

Nicely done Steve. Lots of details in whites and a very nice view of the big wings. Photo really shows what a big chunky bird these are. Looks like you had a ring side seat. Good for you. Dave

Perfect timing, Steve. The bird's belly looks so textural....nicely done.
