    Default Common Gull

    Attached Images Attached Images

    Common Gull, Nymphenburger Park, Munich.
    EOS 7D, 4/500L IS,
1/2500, f5.6, ISO 160, Manual exposure, hand held

I was trying the 7D AF and shooting gulls in flight. That one landed, flapped with the wings a few times and took off again.
I used Zone AF and the central 9 sensors. I cannot yet tell if this was better than using only the central sensor (or that one with neighboring sensors) as I am still learning the AF system of the 7D which I consider to be a lot better than that of my EOS 40D and way more complex to master. So far I like the results.

I did some recovery adjustments in LR (although there are no really blown out highlights according to the histogram), increased clarity, saturation and contrast a little.

I would like a have an angle that is a little lower but there was a hedgerow in front of me.

Sharpness, eye contact and wing position look good. The light looks a bit harsh, I might have gone to ISO 200 and stopped down some more.

Like the wing position and the placement of the Gull in the frame.

Beautiful wing position, good exposure and neat feather detail. Nice water colour, good composition.

I like the comp, sharp detail, and stands out nicely against the deep blue water.
