Guess I'm the one to kick off this week's theme. :) This is one of the loft windows of our barn.

I toned the image using channel mixer, selective color, and a photo filter layer. I also cloned out a wire that was hanging down over the window, added a vignette, and did a very slight crop. The barn swallow was added from one of my other photos. Your comments and suggestions are most appreciated!

Christopher, I really like the toning and framing on this. I kinda wish the swallow was a little bigger. I think the addition of the shadow is a fantastic touch. Well done. Great job kicking us off!!:)

Very nice composition, Christopher. Beautiful texture and tone. Excellent lighting and the vignette adds to it. Agree with Denise on the swallow being a bit small... it is a nice addition with the shadow. Although, i think the image stands on its own without it. TFS.

Thanks for looking and commenting, Denise and Indranil. Here is a repost with the swallow a little larger as suggested. Let me know what you think.

Christopher: please forgive me, but I was rather unsettled by everything being out of square, which may very well have been your intent. So I used the skew tool in PS on your image. Just to see what it would look like. regards~Bill

Thanks for the comments and repost, Bill. Much appreciated! I can't say that I consciously chose to having everything a little out of square; but comparing what you did with my OP, I do think I prefer having everything slightly skewed. I am curious though which version other people prefer.

    Mornin' Christopher,

I like this image a lot. I like the tone. I like the composition. And the bird addition was cool; the shadow brilliant. Don't know if I would have thought of that. heck, I just would have been so happy to get the bird right! ;)

William's re-post brought up an interesting point to me. I find that I look at images one of two ways, and the choice isn't often a conscious one. I either look at it as a casual observer or as a critic. I guess I was looking at this more as a casual observer and as such, the out of square aspect did not catch my eye, did not bother me. After reading William's comment, it was like "oh yeah" it could stand to be straightened which doesn't necessarily always work. But it seems to have here.

Anyway nice work. And I must say that I am feeling more spirit, more of you in your work these days.

Nice image. I think I prefer the squared one, but it is not a big deal. The bird works better larger, but I don't think it adds to the image as it is still hard to see what it is (but then, my eyes aren't the best). In fact, I find it a bit distracting. Is it possible to have a little more detail in the black of the windows? I like the composition. Maybe I should go down to my barn and take some pictures. :)

Thanks for commenting, Anita. Unfortunately, I don't think there's really any more detail I can pull out of the blacks of the window. I'd be curious to see what your barn looks like. :)
