    Default GBH in Florida

Hello, I'm new to this forum as I just learned about it at another site. I must say the quality of photos here are outstanding so I'm happy to be here to learn from everyone and share my photos too.

While I was in Florida on holidays I managed to get some nice bird photos. No shortage of subjects around me of course, so one early morning while shooting the sunrise I caught this fellow playing in the pool behind me.

I enhanced the background using Bokeh and layered that in in PS.

C&C welcome of course if you see something that could improve, thanks.

Welcome to BPN Aiden! I like the outstretched legs and the sharpness of the bird. Wings are a strange color but I suspect that's from reflected turquoise in the water. There's some funny ghosting in the image around the bird and above the white of the dock (perhaps from BG blurring). Next time I would try to get the bird in a more natural environment. TFS.

    Aiden:

A big welcome to BPN. It is a great place to learn.

Your GBH shows a nice pose, wings up, feet well forward. He is sharp, and well exposed.

There is a pronounced green color cast from the reflection out of the pool. The composition is very tight, he needs more room all around, esp. in front, room to fly into.

IMO, the background is quite busy and distracting. There is a pronounced halo around the bird, esp. noticeable on the head.

It will take a bit to get comfortable with all the variables, but progress will come fast if you keep working it.

    Hope to see more.

    Cheers

    Randy

    Hi Aiden

    Big Warm Welcome !!!

Looking at others images and the comments is the best way to improve your photography. I spend most of my time at ETL and we have great group over there, might want to give us a try !!! Looking forward to the next one !!!

Hey, thanks for taking the time to leave me those comments guys. I reworked the photo and removed the halo. Didn't bother making the BG any blurrier yet, but the halo was a quick fix.

    What do you think now?
