    Default depth of field help

Hi - I have a Canon Rebel T1I and for this photo used a Canon 70-300 zoom, all on a tripod and using a remote shutter release and shot through a window. I took this photo just to practice getting birds in flight - I know the composition, etc. is terrible but it is a good example of a problem I struggle with. That is if I set the shutter speed fast enough to capture something moving how do I also get adequate depth of field? I shot this in the Sports mode thinking that would help. The shutter speed is 1/1000, aperture 5, focal length 115 mm, iso 125. The depth of field seems way too shallow and I thought the flying bird woud be captured better at that shutter speed. Sorry I'm such a newbie and I appreciate any advice.

Yes - I realized I didn't add the attachment as soon as I sent it (duh) and when I tried to go back in I received a message that I had exceeded the maximum number of threads .... 2880 .... something. With this being my first post that seemed odd, so I'll try again today. Thanks!

This is the message - "You have reached the maximum number of threads (1) allowed in a 2880 minute period for this forum." Still getting it today so it looks like I'll have to wait 48 hours. Interesting, but check back later if you can. Thanks.

You can edit your original post and add the image that way. As for depth of field, you could use aperture priority and set it to f/8 or so and adjust ISO to have sufficient shutter speed.
