    Default Blue Jay at setup

I had a goal this weekend to finally make some decent photos of blue jays as well as several other winter species here in the Midwest. I used a setup for this one using whole nuts for the jays (they love them). I like the head angle on this, but I don't know if it's body is angled to much toward the camera or if the crop is too tight. I have several where the bird is parallel to the camera, but thought I would post this to get some opinions first. The perch isn't my favorite either. I have been making myself use LR2 more and it is growing on me. I am looking forward to hearing some opinions on this one. Thanks!

Agree a different perch would have been better. With that being said, the pose and background are very nice.
Even though they are abundant, they are a tough bird to capture. Nice job!

great work sir... actually i loved the BG its amazing... i've never seen or captured this bird, but still i feel IMHO that the head and beak is not in focus i would have loved that for my taste.... i am too poor in PP... hope to see some experts on it...

    Regards...

I like the angle, soft light, head angle and BG. I would sharpen the bird some more and run NR on the BG. Maybe you could experiment with a smaller perch that still allows you to hide the treats.

Ran NR on BG, sharpened bird. I guess I need to make sure to oversharpen for the web b/c it looks fine posted, but very over-sharpened in LR2. Thanks for the advice. I need to search for a more delicate, more attractive perch next time. :)

The repost looks really good on my monitor. I only sharpen after resizing for the web.

Bryan, great repost, and I too like the pose, light and colours. Good job with the NR on the BG.

The bird looks much better with additional sharpening. A nice effort. :)

Nice shot Brian, I like the repost! I've been chasing these guys with little luck lately.

BTW - how was your trip!? Pics coming?
