I was quite happy to capture this guy in the open. Taken over the Milnerton lagoon in Cape Town.

love the image nice wing position think i would cut down yellow saturation somewhat
Stuart:
Nice light, well exposed, sharp on the wing, a bit less so on the eye. Looks like he is angling away from us a bit.
Cheers

Stuart,
Nice image. I agree with Randy. A narrow aperture would have been great. Thanks for sharing.
Cheers,

agree the angle slightly away from the viewing pane but I would be happy with his Stu - it's in good light and I've yet to get a purple one in my bag...
Love this bird and the wing position. The yellows and the d-o-f look fine to me. The eye and face could be spruced up and sharpened just a tad. The bird seems perfectly parallel to the back of the camera; the head angled away is most unfortunate. From where you were you did everything perfectly...

I like the light, wing position and sharpness and agree that it would be even stronger if the bird were angled toward you.
Beautiful shot. I like the vertical cropping. Artie already commented on the head angle. I think the yellow looks just fine. Great sharpness and light.
I love Purple Herons - would love to have such a shot.
Markus
Like the position of the wing and the nice light really brings out the colors in the heron.
Stuart, Agree w/ comments already given, Just want to add that the details are great and so is the light.

love the soft light, colors and sharpness, only wish the bird was coming towards you. TFS

You nailed exposure and sharpness. Wing position is excellent. The head angle, as mentioned above, could be better. I like the pano crop too.
