Bill is right, although it's more properly called Nanday Parakeet. "Conure" is a term that is only used in the pet trade. To add to the name confusion, this species is also sometimes called "Black-hooded Parakeet."
Nandays are actually fairly well established in several parts of Florida, so much so that I would not be surprised to see it officially added to the ABA checklist as a countable exotic at some point soon. In 2008 it missed being added by only a single vote.
A pair of Nandayus nenday raised two broods of 2 young each outside my office window in Cupertino, CA in 1978. No feather wear or marks of captivity on either of the adults -- they've been living wild in the San Francisco bay area for a long time -- not just in Florida!
